She shakes it and hits it against other toys and wall to make different sounds. She also uses her finger to touch little details on the embossed pictures on the cube. The squeaky noise is not loud at all. These are soft cubes; however, if you knock on them, you will hear knocking sound somewhat like wood. So they are not like super soft rubber or baby bottle nipple. Some of the animals and shape names on the cubes that might be helpful to know are:1- mouse / qautrefoil (/kadərfoil/)]2- cow / hexagon3- square / tiger4- triangle / rabbit5- circle / dragon6- uh.. circle sector? / snake7- star / horse8- heart / lamb9- cross (suppose to be an addition sign) / monkey0- bar (supposed to be a subtraction sign) / chickenSmall addition sign - flower / dogSmall subtraction sign - trapezoid / pig** the 12 animals match all Chinese zodiac signs so it must be that. Might be fun to find out which one your baby is. :P

When I first got these for my 6 month old I worried about the corners, and wished they were more rounded. But she's been playing with them for a few months now and has not yet poked herself in the eye with them so I think the corners are fine. :-) I think these blocks are cool because she can do different things with them at different ages. Right now she likes to knock over the towers I build with the blocks, and now that she's teething she really enjoys chewing on the raised part of the blocks. I like that when she gets older she'll be able to play at linking them, finding the blocks with the matching indents and raised parts. It's also cool that some of the blocks have math signs (=, +, -) so we can even use them for basic match when she's old enough. The one downside is that there is an air hole in the blocks so when you wash them you have to cover it up so as not to get water inside of them.
Bought these for my 3 month old and she loves them! The colors are great and they are easily washed. They fit into each other for stacking and they are soft on the gums. Definitely buying these for baby showers from now on! 💕😁
